♦How To Set Up Author Tracking
The first thing you need to do (if you haven’t already), is to go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Plugins — Add New — type in MonsterInsights, install it and activate the plugin. Then it should look like the picture below with the Active block up in the right hand corner.
Now you’ll see MonsterInsights in your list of active plugins. Get MonsterInsights Pro (needed for author tracking) and you’ll get many more valuable features including: tracking outbound links, affiliate links, digital downloads, product pages, etc. for the small cost of the Pro Plan.
Then you can click on Settings under the Google Analytics plugin and there you can verify your license key, as shown below:
Next you can connect your Google Analytics with MonsterInsights. Just click Connect MonsterInsights, which is right under where you enter your license key.
Then you’ll log in to your Google account and to give permission to MonsterInsights to access your Google Analytics account, you’ll need to click Allow. Then you select your website that you want to track and then just click Complete Authentication.
Awesome! Now you have Google Analytics by MonsterInsights installed and set up on your WordPress site.
Now go to MonsterInsights and click on Addons to install and activate the Dimensions Addon.
Go to the Tracking Tab then click on Custom Dimensions in the left side menu and then click on Add New Custom Dimension. Click on the drop-down menu and scroll through the options and select Author, make sure to save all your changes.
Now go to your Google Analytics account and open your blog link. Go to the ADMIN Tab in the left side menu and then click on Custom Dimensions. then click on the + New Custom Dimension button. ↓
It’ll open up a form for a New Custom Dimension, just add the author’s name in the name field and click on the Create button and then click DONE.
♦The Final Step
The final step is to go to your MonsterInsights Settings and click on the Tracking Tab and in the left side menu click on Custom Dimensions. Here we’ll make sure the Index Number in Google Analytics is the same number as the Custom Dimension ID in MonsterInsights.
If the numbers do match, you don’t have to do anything. If they don’t match, just enter the Index Number you get for that author from Google Analytics and click SAVE.
That’s it! That’s how easy it is and now MonsterInsights will automatically track your authors and give you thorough, detailed reports right inside your WordPress dashboard and you can customize your reports! Plus this will give you actionable insights to help you grow your blog/website!
